The Bryan College Station Eagle recently informed me that, while they do not intend to do anything about it, our reposting of things that appear in the Eagle is a violation of copyright law. I have thought about this and decided that my interpretation of copyright law as it pertains to the forth estate is different than theirs. Granted, I am not qualified to interpret such laws, but I am qualified to stand on the idea that the press is a vital aspect of our democracy and as such has certain responsibilities in allowing public information to flow freely.
Let there be no doubt that this blog exists as an alternative to the Eagle specifically, and corporate journalism in general. Our democracy has always been and will continue to be dependent on the press. As such it is our job to constantly question and push the powers that control this process. It is also our job in promoting democracy to insure that this crucial element not be controlled by the few who sit on corporate boards.
Blogs and other new media challenge and threaten the authority of those who control the press. This is new populism. This is fast flowing, interconnected, free access, open media. If you disagree with what I have said you can post it and Robert Borden or I will not decide if others will get to read what you have to say.

That should be "Whose" town is this?
I did not realize that people still read the Eagle, much less believed anything they said. What a waste of money.
We have one of THOSE papers too. It couldn't be any more biased, it's sickening. Instead of covering news, they pick and choose specific stories that favor all of their Republican friends. (makes me want to vomit)
WHOSE TOWN IS THIS? It belongs to the Electric Company. Will Mr. Borden do real investigative journalism and write about WHY BTU IS NOT ERCOT COMPLIANT?
Will ROBERT BORDEN even print the story when another newspaper covers it? Should DON ADAM start another competiting newspaper in order to change the power structure?
The wonderful thing about the bloggospher is that it means we do not need either Don Adam or the Eagle controlling community information.
There has been an emergency edict ordered by the Establishment. Too hot. A communication freeze is in effect until further notification from DW. Trying to set up illegal wire tapping and computer monitoring.
