Good Dialog - Good Neighbors

Public Dialog is a very healthy virtue of democracy. The intention of this blog is to provide an outlet for views that may not be otherwise heard and to provide a platform for open dialog. While I have heard from a couple of people in private email who have disagreed with one thing or another, this has not become public dialog. The comments section of this blog are unmoderated - you can say what you want. While there are certain forms of hate speech that might get deleted, most things will be allowed to go. We encourage civil language, but again, if your feeling the muse, don’t be constrained.

Discourse, and democracy for that matter, is not about choosing sides in a black and white world. It is about articulating the many hues of perspective and character (our two party system not withstanding.) You do not necessarily have to disagree with someone to have a different perspective. Please feel free to share your perspective in the comments section.

It is also important to remember that, even when we vehemently disagree with someone on one thing, there will be many others on which we agree. Elections are about looking at the differences to make decisions. Lets not forget that we remain neighbors and should also be committed to the process of finding and working common ground for the rich harvest of good community.

That is often a mighty fine line to walk between honest dialog and being a good neighbor. Seems to be that email, blogs and other forms of virtual communication have contributed to a degradation of common courtesy. Then again the coffee shop used to get pretty rowdy too.
