I don't think the students will come out in big enough numbers to make a difference. This opinion is based on a couple of factors.
First, students at A&M have not turned out in local elections in the past. The fact is, most of the students see themselves as attendees or patrons of a giant educational theme park. They are here to do the Aggie thing. The City is there to provide food, lodging, security and medical services. Oh, I forgot, and entertainment. The students interested in long term community involvement are a small minority.
Second, the student rallying issue is dead. There was an effort to rally students around the # unrelated issue. The City Council finally realized that was an ineffective strategy for dealing with the problem. None of the candidates are in favor of it at this time. The pro-development candidates are still out there trying to make that issue stick to the pro-planning candidates. It is a non-issue and the students have moved on to graduation, baseball, finals, whatever.
