Virtual Revolution

Are you a part of the new media, social networking revolution? Maybe you are frightened by your children being swept up in this out of control innovation in human connection. This new wave is scary, exciting and powerful. It is also rapidly evolving.

These Internet based networks allow people to connect along the lines of interest, location or other parameters that draw people together. Most of these platforms allow you to create a profile containing as much, or as little, personal information as you want. You can join special interests groups, which connect you with others and help define who you are. You can also create networks of friends.

There are many different platforms. The most popular is probably MySpace, which seems especially popular with teenagers. There are other social networks such as Yahoo, FaceBook and, my favorite, Tribe. There are also different types of networks. One of the most popular right not is You Tube which is a means of sharing videos. There are also networks such as Flickr for sharing photos.

Tribe is not well known but it has some rather sophisticated if not clunky aspects to it. I like it because it is funky, edgy and unique. This is not a result of the platform so much as it is because it originates out of San Francisco. There is lots of new agie kind groups as well as marginal politics and out-there innovations. I encourage all of you to sign up for Tribe (http://tribe.net) so that we can create local connections in this rather bohemian neighborhood. If you do let me know and I will include you in my friends network..
