From letters to the editor in today's Eagle
...It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this community as mayor for the past five years. I urge our citizens to go to the polls on May 12 and vote to elect Ben White as mayor of College Station.
Mayor RON SILVIA
Is it appropriate for the mayor to make a political endorsement? While free political speech is important to all of us, we must also recognize that a sitting mayor is seen as speaking for the city. This is especially true when he uses his title in signing the letter. How do you feel about this?

Sweet little Ronnie should have stayed out of it. It simply is NOT appropriate for a mayor to pick the next mayor by decree and then try to influence the voters, to ensure that his friend wins. This place is starting to look more like Cuba everyday.
He lost track of his position and spoke personally. Not appropriate, but it's not surprising of RS. I hope people don't hold that against Ben.
