This blog is getting an increasingly large number of hits each day. Yesterday's hit count doubled the one from the day before. While it is our intention to provide a free an open dialog. The petty personal attacks from anonymous sources detract from this as a legitimate platform for public discourse. We are considering deleting unfounded accusations from anonymous posters. It is sad that posts of serious issues such as sprawl development and campaign finance reform get ignored for this sort of petty mud slinging. we would like to get comments on this issue from readers. Feel free to post your comments as anonymous and we will feel free to ignore them as irrelevant.

Hugh,

By saying that you will ignore anonymous comments as "irrelevant", does this mean that you personally will not give them as much credibility, or that you are going
to refuse to allow them to be posted, i.e., becoming the blog's gatekeeper, like Donnis Baggett is for the Eagle? If so, you might as well shut this site down, because it will return to the
number of hits that you had between Feb., March and April, which were zip, nada, zero.

The problem with using Anonymous instead of choosing a Pen Name, is that numerous Anons can really get confusing. If people were encouraged to pick a pseudonym, then we could all follow postings more logically.

Click on "Other", pick a name,
you don't have to include an email address or set up a google account. Then let 'er rip!

1. I have not deleted anything to this point. The idea is to convince you to act civilly and mature.

2. My complaint with Donnis did not have to do with him acting as a "gatekeeper". That is, after all, the role of an editor. My problem with him was that he was manipulating the news and failing to disclose significant information. As the editor of the Eagle he is free to publish whatever opinion he chooses. I believe however that he has an ethical responsibility to treat the news more objectively, which he clearly failed to do.

3. No, our goal here is not to have a maximum number of readers. Our goal is to provide reliable information and open analysis on local political issues. That does not include citing speculation as legitimate information, nor does it include attacking people's personal lives.

Please understand, I am not trying to run you off. I am encouraging you to act with a little more decorum.

You are getting me mixed up with another blogger, someone who must have posted some rude comments. I have always been very civil, and support what you guys are doing. Personal attacks can dilute the intent of the broader message and may need some monitoring if they get out of hand; however, erudite essays put people to sleep.

Maybe a healthy balance will keep people interested enough to continue reading and writing and laughing, month after month. Our community needs this blogger site, and we are glad you are here!

Hitting refresh increases the "hit" count. That's not a very good indicator of real traffic. But, that along with the SPAM I recieved yesterday from the mysterious bryantexasvotes@yahoo.com would make for much increased hit numbers. So maybe Hugh can tell us who bryantexasvotes@yahoo.com is and where the email collection came from? I feel like I'm part of some "in" group and I don't even know it. This whole site reminds me of ones David Hart put up: http://www.stopthemessinbcs.com/ & http://www.cstx.info/
Good for conversation I guess.

I don't know who it is that you got email from or where they got the list. I occasionally forward posts to a couple of specific groups whose mission coincides with what is being discussed. I'm pretty sure that those emails identify the group that they are being sent to. Other than that I try to let people know if they are being talked about so that they can respond if they want to.

I think "bryantexasvotes" was a group promoting increased voter registration in the minority community. If your skin is white, then you might be on the wrong email list.

I think a reminder to folks that anonymous comments are comments that people will not stand behind enough to be signed is policing enough. I pretty much don't read them. They have no credibility but neither does deleting them.
