Anonymous

Yesterday this blog was used to make spurious accusations of public employees from behind the veil of anonymity. While we will continue to allow anonymity in posting, let us make it clear that this behavior is not our intention; it is an unfortunate byproduct. Please know that if you post anonymously you are already on credibility’s thin ice. If you then accuse others of wrong doing without substantial evidence, you have broken through that ice and become all wet. Additionally if you are doing this in an attempt to promote a candidate, you are doing the opposite.

Also yesterday someone, again anonymously, suggested that if the right people get elected the city manager’s job could be in jeopardy. This is both wrongheaded and foolhardy. It is wrongheaded because I can’t imagine that any of the candidates running against the current regime would treat city staff as political fodder. It is foolhardy because this is the sort of behavior that has many of us are so unhappy with Conlee et al.

No matter how unhappy we may be with the way that a city manager came to office or what his relationship might be to certain city council members, we deal with that by firing the City Council members, not the city staff. It is hugely expensive and disruptive to replace a city manager. If he or she is doing a bad job we should work hard to provide the training and assistance to improve job performance before taking the drastic measure of sending him or her on their way. It is infuriating when a city manager who is doing a stellar job for the city is sent packing by a power hungry Council. This is exactly why Bryan needs change. We do not need City Council members who feel that they are entitled to spend city money for the privilege of picking a city manager that suits them.

I find it interesting that Mark has any followers. It is scary that people are following him.

Look at the facts - what has he really done sucessfully in his businesses?

You want the TRUTH to come out?? Then let people write freely, without the fear of reprisal. Sometimes you cannot have it both ways, especially in Bryan. This is why newspaper reporters protect their sources, sometimes even to the point of going to jail.

Bryan's good ol' boys have a history of destroying businesses, including setting fires to homes and businesses. That is why some of the BBC who resigned will not speak out. They have legitimate reasons to be fearful.

Ex. Does the public really think that the fire in the downtown Twin City Mission building was accidental? The city structured the zoning so that they could not rebuild, then an initiate followed a command to light the match. TCM's only recourse was to sell the land and move, which is exactly what the city had been trying to force them to do for a long time.

Does the public realize that Conlee sent emails to specific, key city employees, asking them to attend his initial media-staged campaign announcement at city hall? Wasn't that a blatant conflict and a violation of ethics? Why didn't the city attorney prevent this from happening?

Is anybody doing serious investigative reporting? No way. The Eagle refuses, time and time again. Whether in College Station or Bryan, people of privilege are protected, and stories get swept under the rug.

I repeat, if you want to know the real deal, sources must be protected. If you want the same old Eagle-type crap, then continue to make people feel guilty for writing anonymously.

An anonymous sources suggests that there is actual information beyond an accusation. An anonymous source is also verified by a credible source such as a reporter.

Talking about Conlee's drinking and business acumen seems more petty than pertinent.

I do not doubt, and am rather certain, in my opinion, that there are violations of the open meetings rules and that there are all kinds of shady back room deals being brokered in Bryan. But, until there is credible evidence of that, it remains speculation. You have not provided any evidence of wrongdoing which means that you are not a source.

I really do think that Bryan suffers from a bad case of good old boys. I do not believe that the way to cure that is to act like them. The cure is electing people like MKM who will stand up to them, challenge them and enforce existing laws and policies so that everything can be brought into the light of day.

What about Brother Rick Perry? He is not going to give up the money from the power plant. Do you really believe that one little woman can get the masonic boys to give up their empires? They have been working overtime to put her in her place. The lodge meetings are going into extended sessions. Guys rule. Long live the power of testosterone!

I think this is a really well done blog, but just want to point out that everyone on here is anonymous to me. I don't really consider the use of a pen name or your first name any different. I hope that you will continue to allow honest discourse even if it gets a bit out of hand sometimes. That is what makes this site interesting.
